Discover West Covina

The Tongva were the earliest inhabitants of the San Gabriel Valley. In 1845 Governor Pio Pico sold much of the land that became West Covina to John Rowland and William Workman. The first permanent settlers arrived in 1905, among them William Payne, Bob Dancer and families named Bender, Robinson and Larsen, who cleared the sagebrush and cactus and planted the area's first walnut trees.

More about West Covina

West Covina was incorporated as a city in 1923, chiefly to stop neighboring Covina from building a sewage farm in the area. Benjamin Franklin Maxson Jr. started the incorporation and served as founding mayor. The city had 769 people in 1930 and 1,549 in 1940. In the building boom after World War II it became one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, rising from fewer than 5,000 people in 1950 to more than 50,000 in 1960, and it grew steadily for the next four decades. The city is home to the Shoehorn Museum, said to hold the world's largest collection of shoehorns. Sources Wikipedia: West Covina, California
