Discover Sun City
In June 1959 James G. Boswell II sold the J.G. Boswell Company's Marinette and Santa Fe ranches, 20,000 acres in all, to the Del E. Webb Development Company for more than $20 million, and the land became the company's first retirement community. Built on the site of the ghost town of Marinette, it was first called the Marinette Retirement Community, but after a national naming contest whose winner received a house, Del Webb chose the name Sun City.

Sun City opened on January 1, 1960, with five model homes, a shopping center, a recreation center and a golf course. The opening weekend drew 100,000 people, ten times the expected number, and led to a Time magazine cover story. Webb expanded Sun City over the years, and his company built other retirement communities across the Sun Belt, including Sun City West in the late 1970s and Sun City Grand in the late 1990s. Its streets are laid out largely in concentric circles forming four pinwheels. The community is well known to law students from the case Spur Industries v. Del E. Webb Development Co. of 1972, commonly taught in property law to illustrate nuisance. Sun City lies 16 miles northwest of downtown Phoenix. Sources Wikipedia: Sun City, Arizona
