The Yorba Linda area is part of the homeland of the Tongva, Luiseno and Juaneno peoples, who lived there as early as 4,000 years ago, and the Tongva village of Hutuknga stood within it. Spanish colonization from 1769 brought disease, new species and livestock that upset the region's ecology and led the Tongva to resettle around the missions. This article says the Spanish Crown granted Jose Antonio Yorba 63,414 acres across much of present Orange County in 1810, while other sources date his Rancho San Antonio grant to 1801. In 1834 the Mexican governor Jose Figueroa granted his son Bernardo Yorba, for whom the city is named, the 13,328-acre Rancho Canon de Santa Ana, and much of it stayed with the family after 1848. The site of Bernardo Yorba's hacienda is a California Historical Landmark, and nearby is the Yorba Cemetery, given to the Catholic Church by Bernardo Yorba in 1858, one of the oldest private cemeteries in the county.
In 1907 the Yorba family sold part of the land to the Fullerton businessman Jacob Stern, who raised barley and sheep, and he sold it to the Janss Investment Company, which named the area Yorba Linda and subdivided it. In 1910, with fewer than 50 residents, the first lemon and orange groves were planted, and by 1912 the area had telephone service, a school, a post office, the Yorba Linda Citrus Association, electricity, a church and a Pacific Electric line to Los Angeles, used mainly to carry citrus. Richard Nixon was born in Yorba Linda in 1913. Sources Wikipedia: Yorba Linda, California
