Discover Vincent

Vincent, in Shelby, St. Clair and Talladega counties, was first known as Propel. It stands on land granted to the Kidd family by the governor of Alabama in the 1800s, which was willed in 1859 to three Kidd daughters; the town is named for one of them, Anna Bella Vincent, and the Vincent family were among its early settlers, along with the Clements, Kidd, McGraw, Elliott and Bell families.

More about Vincent

The oldest house in town, the Tom Bell home, is a two-story Colonial house built in the 1840s by skilled carpenters using enslaved labor. A school founded in 1854, the post office and the arrival of the railroad in 1887 led to the town's incorporation, and its charter was enacted by the legislature on February 16, 1897, with educator Carroll H. Florey among its leaders. Vincent is home to what it calls Alabama's largest living decorated Christmas tree, planted in the 1930s and lit each year with the town's Christmas parade.
