Discover Hollins
Hollins, in southwestern Clay County, began when the Columbus and Western Railway reached the area in the late 1800s, and a post office opened in 1887. It is named for an official of the Kaul Lumber Company, which John Kaul founded in 1888 when he bought out the Sample Lumber Company in Hollins.

Demand for lumber brought jobs, and besides the Kaul headquarters and mill, Hollins had a hotel, several general stores, three churches, a school and a cotton gin. It was incorporated on February 21, 1893, and in 1890 and 1900 it was the second-largest community in Clay County after Ashland, reaching a peak of 688 people in 1910. The Kaul mill burned in 1908 and was rebuilt, but in 1911 it closed and moved to Kaulton. Hollins's population declined, and its town charter was dissolved on September 25, 1919.
