Arab, mostly in Marshall County, was established in the 1840s by Stephen Tuttle Thompson and first known as Thompson's Village. In 1882 his son, Arad Thompson, applied for a post office, sending three possible names: Arad, Ink and Bird. The Postal Service, by an unintended misspelling, recorded the name as Arab, and the town has often appeared on lists of unusual place names since.
Arab was incorporated on December 10, 1892. It lies about 10 miles from Guntersville Lake and Dam. Arab was a sundown town, where a sign warned Black people not to remain after dark and they were at times barred even during the day. Sources Wikipedia: Arab, Alabama
